When my notion begot this trail I knew me
when I reached for her siren youth
scaling high on a shadow she threw me
down a line of ephemeral truth
Now that fever's a cage of need to feed
on this daemon of my own lies
wrapped in passion of hungry thorn I bleed
on a beauty of fire and ice
My long lost friends
you say you've gathered
but all I see is sky and mountains clear
for as my cage demands
I'd rather stay down here
If my heart would let go these eyes I'd see you
if the earth would let go, I'd fly
if this trail would let go my heart I'd free you
pure, I am forever high
My long lost friends
I find you gathered
among the soaring skies and mountains clear
And letting go I know
I'd rather stay up here
But losing this lesson
is easy to do
living it, harder still
vague and elusive
but brutally true
Knowing it, now I will
thank my songs for all their light
and release them back into the night
