Faster than Light

Walking alone through this landscape

I would never have thought

it could get this cold

though a dream for my jacket

and a song my provision

it's so hard when that dream is untold

There are so many pastures

yet to be discovered

there are so many dreams to be dreamt by you

there are so many visions

yet to be recovered

from that moment you knew to be true

I know its dreaming out loud

but that is one game I know for certain

I know how to play

I caught a caterpillar

with my fingers, he was stiller

that the ocean on that evening

when the winds had gone

so I asked him if I'd hurt him

and he answered it's for certain

if you think you can hear me

I'm fine

I know it's dreaming out loud

but that is one game I know for certain

I know how to play

It was so cold I was freezing

I couldn't help weeping

I knew without echoes

I'd fade

but then again, said the caterpillar

what you really need

is one dream to guide you, one song to carry you

through all the love that you've lost

Returning to my senses

I discovered that my fences

had been put there by yours truly

in self defense

for if I had really heard him

(and I know that I had heard him)

then it's plainer than daylight

stronger than sunshine

that thought is so much faster than light

Running through the meadow

playing catch up with my shadow

while involved in conversation with this butterfly

I was telling him a story

about a friend and how the seasons

that were self imposed between us would sigh

And while painting crazy circles

with his wings across the meadow

through the sunshine came his question

tell me who's that friend

I don't know how to describe it

but when I was trying to hide it

every thought of you shone through and he'd smile

I guess it's dreaming out loud

but that is one game I know for certain

I know how to play

And there is one dream I know for certain

always will stay

And it's morning and the road ahead

is shining my way

And it's plainer than daylight

stronger than sunshine

that thought is so much faster than light
